Mr. Rodney M. Stockton “The Aloe Man”
The following is a biographical summary of Aloe Pioneer Mr. Rodney Stockton and his companies.
Mr. Stockton’s exceptional
life experiences could provide the basis of a motion picture script. Beginning with his contribution to the development of cellophane to the development and growth of his company, Alo Creme Laboratories, constitutes an American success story. In the 1950’s Stockton introduced the benefits of Aloe Vera to the American Public and by the 1970’s virtually owned the market.
There are strong indications that Stockton’s unique specie of Aloe Vera Plant offers unique medicinal properties. After much persuasion Rodney Stockton was convinced to re-enter the world of commerce and offer his “Aloe #1” product to the general public.
Talking with 84 year old Stockton is truly an uplifting and informative experience. His positive attitude and amazing physical appearance provide testimony to a lifestyle that has included the consumption of 8 oz. of his aloe gel every day for the past 50 years. The result seems to speak for itself.
1913- The son of a Baptist Minister Rodney Stockton is born in St. Louis, M.O. on February 3, 1913. The Stockton Family tree can be traced directly back to Richard Stockton whose signature is found on the Declaration of Independence.
1936- Stockton obtains a position as a chemical engineer with Sylvania Industries where he is involved in the development of a new product called cellophane. The original clear cellophane product rips very easily. In an effort to correct this problem Mr. Stockton suggests adding color pigments to the cellophane to toughen the product. The result of adding color is the creation of amber cellophane, the first customer is a rye bread bakery. Today amber cellophane is used world wide to wrap wheat and rye bread.
1943- During World War 2, Mr. Stockton serves on the world food administration where he personally develops the formula for the equitable distribution of dried eggs and beef to Great Britain and Russia.
1944- Per request from the U.S Quartermaster Corps. Stockton develops an oil suspension system to keep eggs fresh without refrigeration.
1947- During a vacation to Florida in 1941 Stockton endures the agony caused by a severe sunburn, remembering this experience he begins a personal quest for an effective burn remedy. In 1947, while researching method of thermal burn treatments Stockton uncovers a unique specie of the Aloe Vera Plant being used by the Seminole Indians.
1948-1949- Almost two years of research and cultivation are required to stabilize the therapeutic factors in the gel of the Seminole Aloe Plant. The final result is called the Barbadensis-Miller-Stockon Specie.
1951- Rodney Stockton starts his own company called ALO CREME LABORATORIES, of which he is the sole employee working on commission. The only product being sold is his Seminole Aloe Gel Ointment used for treatment of burns and skin irritations. This same year Stockton begins to consume 8 ounces of raw aloe gel daily and selectively begins to distribute the gel for therapeutic purposes.
1953- Based customer satisfaction and word of mouth Stockton’s company ALO CREME LABORATORIES shows a significant profit in the very first year of operation.
1954- A Chicago Ill. dermatologist observes that Stockton’s Aloe ointment helps clear up rashes and blemishes and encourages Stockton to put out Aloe products in lower concentration liquid form for use as cosmetics.
1955- Stockton raises capital by a public stock offering of ALO CREME LABORATORIES. using the revenue from the stock sale he hires scientists to develop an aloe based line of cosmetics and hires a sales force to sell them.
1956- A Physician in Florida decides to test the ointment by applying it to some of the more severe wounds on a man who had been badly burned by hot pitch. Not only did the treated section heal much faster than the non treated areas, there is no scaring. News of this spreads quickly, and soon both doctors and hospitals recommend the ointment.
1957- Sotckton's Aloe Ointment is granted final F.D.A. approval as a burn treatment. Stockton's company ALO CREME LABORATORIES receives a government contract from the General Administration Services. ALO CREME LABORATORIES now lists 14 items which are sold in 30 states and abroad.
1959- Based on the prove value of his unique specie of aloe in the treatment of Thermal burns Mr.Stockton is invited by A.F. colonel Frank Voris to become a member of the U.S. Aero Space Association.
1960- Mr. Stockton's Aloe Ointment is used by NASA to protect and treat astronauts for the lip and skin irritations associated with space travel.
1961- Two major cosmetic companies tender offers to acquire ALO CREME LABORATORIES and, when denied, one resorts to industrial sabotage, unsuccessfully attempting to pirate and reproduce Stockton's aloe specie. This incident is resolved by the courts.
1963- At age 50, Stockton marries 27 year old Joan Barnes.
1963-1973- With an increasing focus on the profitable aloe cosmetic line ALO CREME LABORATORIES is an American success story realizing annual earnings 125 times it's working capital. Stockton gains the most satisfaction from letters of thanks he is receiving from the select group of customers who are consuming his raw aloe gel for therapeutic reasons.
1965- Stockton is appointed to the President’s Council of the American Institute of Management, an advisory organization comprised of some of the best minds in the nations business world.
1974- Stockton’s company provides Aloe cosmetics and ointment to the nation and the world. The company name is synonymous with Aloe products. Hoping to cash in on Stockton’s established company name and success a new company calling itself Aloe 99 Inc. enters the marketplace. Stockton takes exception to the copy cat company name.
1975- On Oct. 9, 1975 the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board renders a 26 page decision in favor of ALO CREME LABORATORIES the decision states “the scope and protection should extend to preclude the registration of any trademark for cosmetics and ointments containing the term ALO or even ALOE. This federal court decision granted Stockton the exclusive right to use the word Aloe as part of his company name. This U.S. government court ruling acknowledges that to the American consumer the name Aloe is synonymous with Rodney Stockton and his company ALO CREME LABORATORIES.
1976-1983- ALO CREME LABORATORIES enjoys increasing success with product placement in healthfood, drug and department stores throughout North America. Stockton’s selective sale of his raw aloe gel proves to be a great benefit to critically ill people who send him letters telling of their healing experiences.
1983- At age 70 Rodney Stockton chairman of the board of directors of ALO CREME LABORATORIES sells his majority stock holdings to company employees and retires to spend time with wife and 14 year old daughter.
1989- Lacking Stockton’s leadership and knowledge ALO CREME LABORATORIES is declared bankrupt.
1989- Subsequent to the closing of ALO CREME LABORATORIES Stockton is personally besieged with requests for product from former customers who seem to be in panic over the prospect of loosing their “Genuine Aloe Source”. Wishing to accommodate loyal customers and old friends Rodney Stockton establishes Aloe #1 Laboratories. The news continues to spread regarding the healing powers of the raw gel derived from Stockton’s unique Aloe specie.
1997- Lifespan+, a company devoted to the search for, and sale of, products that contribute to healing and longevity contacts the 84 year old Rodney Stockton and persuades him to re-enter the global aloe marketplace that he virtually, and single handedly created.
At the time of this Biography Rodney Stockton was 84 years old. He consumed 8 oz. of his raw aloe gel every day for the past 50 years. Rodney Stockton looked and acted like someone at least 20 years younger. Per a physical examination taken in 1997 these were his statistics:

1997-2009- Rodney Stockton was able to educate and help many people through his raw aloe gel sold as Aloe #1 Health Drink. The sale of the original Aloe #1 Ointment with 70% aloe vera gel was also kept available to the many people who wanted and needed it. He was very active in the day to day work of running a business up to age 96 when he passed away of a heart attack. We all knew Rodney was expecting to continue to provide the public with his life giving aloe for many more years, but God had different plans. Joan Stockton was then left to continue his great work, but was not able to do it all by herself. After a year of hardship, Joan decides to pass the reins to long time friends of Rodney’s, Dr. Michael and Amanda Haley.
2010- Stockton Aloe 1, Inc. was born to carry on the legacy of “The Aloe Man” - Mr. Rodney M. Stockton. We are providing the same unique Barbadensis-Miller-Stockton specie of Aloe that Rodney worked for decades to impart to the public. We look forward to educating and sharing this wonderful “miracle plant” with many more people in the future!
06/2011 - Stockton Aloe 1 introduces the New Youth Derm Ointment with 70% Aloe Vera Gel from the Barbadensis Miller Stockton Specie and the remainder of the ingredients coming from the Whole Foods Approved list of ingredients.
